Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP)

Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) students are both high school students and registered apprentices. RAP is open to high school students who are 15 years of age or older with informed consent from a parent/guardian. RAP students earn at least minimum wage.

I am interested in RAP. What should I do next?

  • Connect with your high school career counsellor or principal to express your interest and learn more about RAP. You will also find information on the Apprenticeship and Industry Training website
  • Determine if you meet the requirements.

You will follow the processes set up by your high school which will include, but are not limited to:

  1. Complete HCS3000 (Workplace Safety).
  2. Secure an employer. Your school team and Careers Next Generation can help you.
  3. Follow the instructions on the Apprenticeship and Industry Training website to register as an apprentice with your employer.
  4. A Safety Site Inspection will be completed of the workplace.
  5. Register in the course (s).
    1. Each RAP course involves 125 hours of on-the-job training worth 5 high school credits each.

Who is a great fit for RAP?

Students who:

  • are interested in a career in the trades.
  • are at least 15 years old.
  • have support at the school and family level.
  • have a willing employer.
  • are able to manage their high school courses alongside RAP and are motivated to learn alongside experts.
