Golden Hills School Division is seeking a qualified and dedicated Caretaker to join our team.
This position involves working across three school locations in Strathmore, Alberta, all within proximity—two schools are less than a 30-second drive apart, and the third is only a two- to three-minute drive from the others. The regular shift is 5.5 hours per evening. Additional hours or shifts at other GHSD locations in Strathmore may occasionally be required, depending on operational needs.
Primary Responsibilities:
As a Caretaker, you will be responsible for ensuring day-to-day cleanliness and maintaining a safe environment for children, staff, parents, and the public within our school division. The role involves a variety of routine cleaning and potentially minor maintenance tasks to upkeep GHSD buildings and property.
Essential Requirements:
- Preferably 1 to 3 years of related experience, but training can be provided
- Thorough and current knowledge of standards, practices, methods, tools, and equipment of the trade (desirable)
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to work alone and as a team member in a safe and effective manner
- Ability to meet or exceed established standards and schedules
- Ability to adjust habits and training to understand new methods or tasks
- Ability to walk, stand, maintain balance, climb, crouch, lift, frequently carry heavy objects, bend, stoop and reach above shoulder level
- Hands-on knowledge and experience in the safe operations of a variety of tools, machinery, and power equipment (desirable)
- Ability to withstand indoor and outdoor environmental conditions, including exposure to extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, pollen, sun, rain, fumes, odors, noise, and machinery vibrations. Exposure to mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards. Work around moving objects or vehicles
- Ability to work with division administrators and staff, students, public and user groups
- Ability to review subsequent documents related to jobs and tasks, such as WCB, Job Hazard Assessment, Safe Work Practices, etc.
- Primary duties include, but are not limited to: Sweeping, wet mopping, vacuuming carpeted areas, scrubbing floors, cleaning and sanitizing washrooms, desktops, counters, dispensers, and windows, dusting shelves, ledges, and top of lockers, emptying garbage and recycling receptacles, moving furniture as required, snow removal at entryways as required, and securing the division office at the end of the shift.
