Golden Hills School Division is seeking a Skilled Maintenance Worker to work with the School Division.

Reports to:  Facilities Manager

Primary Responsibilities:

The Skilled Maintenance Worker will assume a wide range of maintenance duties within our educational facilities. These responsibilities encompass basic plumbing, carpentry, HVAC support, including acquiring knowledge of the Building Management Systems. In addition, the Maintenance Worker will play a vital role in performing general maintenance tasks to ensure the safety, functionality, and overall condition of our facilities, including their surrounding grounds. The primary area includes Strathmore and the surrounding area which includes Carseland School and Wheatland Crossing School.

Essential Requirements:

  • Trade Certificate is considered an asset. Minimum of one to three years’ experience is essential.
  • On the job training will be available to support skill development.
  • Thorough and current knowledge of the standards, practices, methods, tools, and equipment of the trade.
  • Establish a good working relationship and open communication channels with stakeholders.
  • Hands-on knowledge and experience in the safe operations of a variety of tools, machinery, and power equipment
  • Assist other trades in completing various maintenance tasks such as constructing and install furniture, millwork, cupboards, shelving, countertops, cabinets, flooring, framework, walls, stairs, whiteboards, bulletin boards, towel dispensers, soap dispensers and other related carpentry tasks, Repairing and maintaining all plumbing systems i.e., urinals, toilets, washbasins, grease traps, water softeners, water heaters, sewer lines, water lines etc.
  • Move, install, and assemble supplies and equipment as needed. Additional maintenance duties will include but are not limited to hanging pictures, mirrors, snow removal, mowing, installing, changing ceiling tiles, and unplugging toilets etc. 
  • Willingness to learn basic functions of our Building Management Systems
  • Rotating on-call shifts with the potential for after-hours and weekend work. Candidate must be located within 20 minutes of one of the primary facilities.
  • Respond to emergency situations during and after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
  • Potential weekend work due to projects.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and work independently.
  • Ability to withstand indoor and outdoor environmental conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license. Must provide a driver's abstract with a maximum of 6 demerits.
  • Applicants considered for employment will be required to provide a Royal Canadian Mounted Police Disclosure of Criminal Record Information, and an Alberta Children’s Services Intervention Record Check.

Golden Hills School Division has its headquarters in Strathmore, Alberta and includes the communities of Strathmore, Carseland, Standard, Drumheller, Acme, Linden, Carbon, Three Hills and Trochu.
