Screening Tool for Parents, Students and Staff |

Screening Tool for Parents, Students and Staff

As we get closer to school start-up, we promised to share more details with you on one of our critical accommodations for our near normal return to school. Family and self-screening will be a very important component in the range of measures we are implementing in order to reduce risks and keep everyone healthy in our schools.

Screening Questionnaire

Our Chief Medical Officer has published a tool to help parents, older students and staff to evaluate whether they should be coming to school.  Attached, is a copy of that screening questionnaire for you to download and print for easy reference at home.  Here also is a link to the same screening tool online as well as a QR code to access the questionnaire on your mobile device:
https://www.alberta.ca/assets/documents/edc-covid-19-screening-questionaire-english.pdf

How do we use the screening tool?

The questionnaire is easy to use.  It’s meant to be part of your morning routine.  Review the questions.  If you answer yes to any of the questions, you should NOT come to school.  Call 811 and follow their instructions.

What if I have symptoms, but I know it’s not COVID-19?

We do understand that there are factors besides COVID-19 that could cause symptoms described in the tool.  As one example, seasonal allergies, or other pre-existing conditions could cause similar symptoms.  The first time you experience symptoms when using the screening tool, visit: https://myhealth.alberta.ca/journey/covid-19/Pages/COVID-Self-Assessment.aspx and complete the self assessment or call 811 and follow Alberta Health Services instructions.  After a negative test result, you may return to school even though symptoms may still be present.

My child was fine in the morning but developed symptoms at school - what happens then?

For students who develop symptoms while at school, those children will move down to the infirmary or other space away form their classmates.  Office staff will notify parents immediately to come in and pick them up.  We are not permitted to allow them to ride the bus to return home.

What if I still have questions?

If you have questions about specifics with your situation, call the school.  The principal can help you with questions and next steps if you are unsure.

Where do I get tested??

If you are experiencing symptoms and have called 811, you will be directed by Alberta Health Services where to go for testing. For asymptomatic testing Alberta Health Services has set up testing locations at a variety of local Pharmacies, to find the one most convenient location for you please visit the Alberta Blue Cross site at: https://www.ab.bluecross.ca/news/asymptomatic-testing.php

We are looking forward to a great school year and each of us has a part to play in our own health and the health of others.  Our Chief Medical Officer says that using this screening tool every day is one of the most important things we can do in support of our school and community.  We are asking parents, older students and all our school staff to be consistent in adopting this as part of their regular morning routine.
