On Saturday, December 2 the Calgary Flames played their Indigenous Celebration Game against the Vancouver Canucks at the Scotiabank Saddledome. This celebration of Indigenous culture and tradition is a recognition of the peoples of the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta.
The celebration began with a beautiful rendition of O’Canada performed by Dilayna Blackhorse a former student of Westmount School, Crowther Memorial Jr. High School, and Strathmore High School, Dilayna sang the entire national anthem in the native language of Blackfoot.
The game, which was broadcasted on Hockey Night in Canada, hosted representatives from the Blackfoot Confederacy and Metis District 4 as well as Flames fans.
This is the second time Dilayna performed the National Anthem in Blackfoot for the Calgary Flames, she also had the opportunity to sing on March 3, 2023, during the first Indigenous Celebration Game.
