Reading through the rain: Golf Tournament raises $113,000

What started with an ominous sky line transformed into an ideal gathering for celebrity golfers as the annual Links and Legends charity golf tournament took over the Valley Ridge Golf Club. Organized and operated by The Educational Partnership Foundation (former Calgary Education Partnership Foundation), the tournament raised $113,000 to support their wide array of initiatives aimed at strengthening the bonds between businesses in the Calgary community and the local education system.

The TEPF's 15th annual Links and Legends tournament played host to local celebrities like Olympians Louis-Pierre Helie and Steve Mesler alongside Calgary Stampeder Jamar Wall. These individuals alongside over 130 participants took to the course in support of both the READING... GIVE IT A SHOT, and CITIZENSHIP IN ACTION programs offered by TEPF. Since 1991 the foundation has strived to increase the surrounding businesses support towards five school districts in the city. As CEO and President Din Ladak explained, "Today's generation wants meaning in everything they do. Corporate social responsibility is about exercising a company’s conscience and creating value in the workplace for generations to come". This is what allowed students such as 11 year old Bailey Wathen of Westmount School in Strathmore to join in on the occasion. "Participating in Reading...Give it a Shot was easy...", she spoke to the attendees, "...books can take you on many adventures". This realization is a central purpose driving TEPF, who supports the initial vigor of student interest and allow their imagination to carry forth a lifelong relationship with literature.

Supporting The Educational Partnership Foundation was an all-star cast of corporate sponsors including ConocoPhillips, PCL, The NewsWire, Building Trades of Alberta, Cahill, The Flames Foundation and many more sponsors.

The dismal skies gave way to a wonderful day on the Valley Ridge golf course to support ‘Strong Readers and Great Leaders!
